My name is Steve. I grew up in Portland, Oregon and I have lived most of my life in the Willamette Valley. There was that two year sojourn to Berkeley, California where I went to Seminary – and then there was the six years in Burley, Idaho.
My family is the most important thing in my life, starting with my wife Joanne (married her in 1972) and my three grown sons; Justin, Michael, and Aaron. Michael is married to Jeannie, and she is growing on us fast! But I am also devoted to my Mom and my three brothers and their families. These are the people who know me best, love me most truly, and keep my feet relatively close to the ground.
I’m a pastor in a United Methodist Church. It is part of a Cooperative Ministry with a Lutheran (ELCA) church. It is a great place to be in ministry. The congregations we serve together are energetic, risk taking, and devoted to being a blessing to the community. They are doing their best to follow Jesus, which is what I think Christianity is mostly about.
I like to read mysteries. Currently my favorite author is Ian Rankin who writes stories about an Edinburgh Detective Inspector named John Rebus. I like to hunt and fish, but apparently not enough to make very much time for them after doing all the other stuff I am committed to. I am building a traditional wooden boat (which you can see more about on my other blog if you’re interested – click the tab at the top of the page). I like camping with my family and friends.
I have thoughts and opinions about a lot of things. These are what I want to share here, mostly because I think most clearly when I write things down, and when others can push and prod at my ideas to knock off the dim witted parts.
Thanks for bothering to stop by. If you have something to say, I’d appreciate your comments.
